·        Renaissance Community Services is an advocacy agency designed to provide an independent, free and confidential service through the delivery of information, referral, support, advice and/or representation to individuals and families.

·       When participants use Renaissance’s direct services, they enter a community that automatically plugs them into the advocacy and activism surrounding West Modesto’s policies on homelessness and poverty. Because Renaissance has already captured a constituency, our like-minded collaborators are eager to connect with us to share our space, staff, and "ready audience" as resources for organizing, training, and development. This assures that the Renaissance community is a strong presence in advocacy in Modesto.

·        The neighborhoods served by Renaissance are vibrant, colorful communities - alive with diversity and reflecting their own unique culture through art, commerce, creativity, and residents who genuinely care about each other and their neighborhood. However, for all of its cultural richness, they have also been areas increasingly fraught with extreme poverty, homelessness, street deaths, drug dealing, drug use, violence, and other social problems. They are home to many of Modesto’s most marginalized citizens who overwhelmingly live on the streets, in shelters, in single room occupancy hotels, or in cramped quarters with friends and family.

·   Using a combination of integrated programs and community linkages, Renaissance promotes a community-wide continuum of care that supports participants in overcoming these barriers that contribute to disparate living conditions for its residents. Renaissance Community service objectives include:

            Overcoming barriers that restrict opportunities.

            Making sure appropriate societal and service delivery responses occur.

            Ensuring a better quality of life.

            Speaking, acting or writing on behalf of individuals.

            Be responsive to and emphasize individual needs.

            Aiming for empowerment of disadvantaged individuals and families.

            Challenging stereotypes and stigmas.
